Glimpses Of My Books

Hi Guys! Here is my reading wrap up for July! I cannot believe I managed to read 13 books... This is no shadow of doubt my favorite contemporary read for 2017 this far!  For the book blurb click  Here (GoodReads) I am so in awe that it is almost hard to write the review. I feel like I won't give it justice. R.I.P Eliza Hart is about (mainly) two girls with mental issues. Ellie, who suffers from claustrophobia due to a traumatic experience we don't figure out till the end of the book. And Eliza, who was emotionally unstable for reasons revealed slowly throughout the book.  It impressed me how much background story is given to both main characters in just a few hundred pages. I felt Ellie's pain thorough the pages and I was always curious to know what would happen next. She was a wonderful and easy character to relate to. As was Sam, her roommate, friend, and eventually love interest. The romance story happening on the side between those two is adorable. I was gushing and blushing while reading their interactions. Three Dark Crowns got me like: 'come again?' It was one of those books that once you get into it you need to know what happens next, you are therefore truly involved. But at no point you scream with excitement... If it wasn't for the beautifully crafted ending it would have been a lower score... but no no... Kendare Blake was clever. VERY clever. The way the ending for all three queens just turned it all on its head so simply and yet efficiently deserves much praise. If you find yourself struggling with the book to start with, please do hold on!  I am (and proudly -sorry not sorry-) a pain when reviewing book endings for fantasy books. I am rarely satisfied or happy with it. Maggie Stiefvater is no shadow of doubt one of the most creative and imaginative authors out there. Think about it... all her books have completely different stories, they are nothing alike. Other famous authors cannot say the same, they write well and we love their books but there is a certain similarity throughout their stories (think Sarah J Maas and fae warriors. Or Cassandra Clare and her plethora of books on shadowhunters). That is not the case with Maggie. For the Book blurb click  here I don't even know how to begin. The story was beautifully written and all the characters were easy to love. The main female character, Puck, was phenomenal! The way she describes her own temperament - sugar and vinegar - had me laughing out loud and loving her all the more for it. She was fierce and loving all the while still a little bit of child. NEVER FLINCH. NEVER FEAR. NEVER FORGET Nevernight was exquisite! One of the most original books I have read this year. On originality it loses only to another masterpiece by the same author: Illuminae! For the Book Blurb click  Here I almost didn't read it. And that would have been a tragedy! It is told from two different perspectives narrating two very different 'firsts' using very similar vocabulary. The writing skill Jay Kristoff possesses is out of this world. Before I begin: this is not an YA like most of my book reviews. It is an adult romance story. As the book covers states, A Modern Day Cinderella Story! For the book blurb look  here . Gosh, I loved this! Hence the review even though I do not usually write reviews here for adult books! It was so so cute! It is not easy to find a good fairy-tale retelling. Marissa Meyer is one of the few YA authors that manages that brilliantly. It is even harder however to find a good adult fairy-tale retelling. I tried one not long ago one meant to be an adult retell for Beauty and the Beast and it was terrible. Cinderella.com however exceeded expectations. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor  3.8/5 (YA fantasy)I Started this book back in May and really struggled to get through the first 2/3 of it. It was beautiful after that and totally worth it! -full review available on this blog- Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff 5/5 Illuminae  (YA sci-fi) will most certainly be on my list as one of the best books read this year. I cannot recommend it enough. It started off very light hearted, easy and fun to read, But all of sudden it become one of the most intense reads I've ever come across. A little slow to start but all in all it kept a good pace. The plot is promising. Women are property kept for breeding and the main character wants to escape that fate.
